Free First Sunday: The Art of Children's Books

Join us for a fun-filled celebration of children’s literature! Meet local published authors, enjoy interactive storytime, and create your own accordion-style book inspired by the charming characters from our Golden Books exhibition. Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
Program Agenda:
1–4 PM: Make an accordion-style book inspired by Golden Books characters
1–4 PM: Meet and greet with local authors and illustrators

Madi Hannan is a New Orleans native and current life science teacher at Mount Carmel Academy. She has a passion for all things dogs, art, and baking. Her favorite animal is the opossum, but cats are a close second. Scrim on the Run! is her first children's book authored and illustrated, and her second book The Little Lost Alligator will be released soon. Follow Madi @artbymadicat
Gayle Webre holds a Master’s + 30 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (currently ULL) and has worked in elementary education for 25 years, primarily designing and implementing curricula for gifted children. She is the author of three children’s books. When I Was an Alligator, her debut picture book, represented Louisiana at the 2022 National Book Festival. Margaret Simon lives on the Bayou Teche in New Iberia, Louisiana. Margaret has been an elementary school teacher for 38 years. Her latest poetry book is a collaboration with Phebe Hayes, Were You There: A Biography of Emma Wakefield Paillet. Paul Schexnayder has been a professional (color-blind) artist for more than 30 years. Schexnayder is also an award-winning children’s author/illustrator with three picture books published with University of Louisiana Press and three by Pelican Publishing. Paul and his wife, Lee live in New Iberia, Louisiana and have three kids. They have owned A & E Gallery for over 15 years which features over 10 local artists.
