Celebrate the future of our community and the arts in Baton Rouge through “We love… .” This special exhibition, on display February 12 through March 19, spotlights delightful pastel self-portraits from 304 students who participate in ArtWorks and MUSE, two of LSU Museum of Art’s education programs.

Every portrait represents a young artist from our community—someone who has become inspired to create by a visit to the LSU Museum of Art. We love each and every one of these children. They make the museum come alive. In the drawings on display, you will see the spirit and energy of students from White Hills Elementary Pre-K through 4th grade, Bernard Terrace Pre-K and gifted Kindergarten, Capitol Elementary Pre-K, 4th and 5th grade Alternative Program as well as students from our three MUSE homeschool programs.

ArtWorks and MUSE are two examples of ways the LSU Museum of Art uses its collection and exhibitions to educate our community. Each month, throughout the school year, these young learners come to the museum where the galleries transform into a creative extension of their classroom.  All ages, from preschool to pre-teen, explore the exhibitions using object-based learning to deepen meaning across their curriculum. Students discuss artwork, uncover history, contemplate the future, and discover connections. Each session begins in the museum galleries where student-centered creative teaching hones critical thinking. Then, students move to the third floor studio to create their own artwork while exploring different artistic media and methods.
